This photo was taken in an vacant where they will one day build a road but haven't gotten to it yet. You really can find a good place to shoot ANYWHERE!Time
I took this image about 7:00pm in May right as the sun has dipped below the tree line. It was in that moment right between sunset and twilight. The light was just gorgeous!!!Lighting
I wanted the viewer to have a sense of ease and nostalgia when looking at this picture. Perhaps remembering the wonder bubbles held when they were children. I also loved the way shooting at twilight evoked a sense of moving from one thing to the next and fleetingness of childhood wonder.Equipment
I used a Canon 5d Mark iii and the Canon 70-200mm 2.8 at 200mm and f 2.8.Inspiration
I was really just inspired by the moment. She was playing with the bubbles and the light was hitting her messy 5 year old hair just right and I thought it was a beautiful moment.Editing
I used Adobe Camera Raw to deepen the shadows and punch the highlights a bit. Then I took it into Photoshop to play with the colors. I wanted oranges and yellows to be more intense and the greens to be richer and darker. Other then that it's pretty much as it was shot.In my camera bag
I always have my Canon 5d mark iii camera body, Canon 24-70mm 2.8 lens, Canon 50mm 1.4 lens, Canon 70-200mm 2.8 lens and Canon 580exii speedlight. I have a few other lens, filters and things that I take on occasion but I find that what I usually have is sufficient to give me a wide range of looks at my portrait sessions.Feedback
Have patience and give the child something to do (like blowing bubbles). Put them where you want them to be and then wait for THE moment to happen. The beauty in photographing children is the authenticity of everything they do. You never know what they will do but whatever it is it will be authentic!
