Location
This photo was taken on the counter top in my cousin's kitchen. He and his now wife, and at the time, fiancee, wanted me to take photos of their rings for them, and this was just one of the images.Time
This photo was taken in the early afternoon.Lighting
Lighting is a huge part of this photo, as the shadow creates the main focal point of the image, so making sure that I was at just the right angle to make the heart shadow lookEquipment
This photo was shot on a Canon 60D and the lighting to create the shadow was aided by some portable work lights. I have yet to own a professional set of lights, and my cousin had the work lights in the basement, so I used what I had available to me.Inspiration
My cousin's wife saw a similar photo on Pinterest and wanted me to recreate it.Editing
I tend to edit all photos I take, even if minimally. For this one, I used adobe Lightroom on the raw files to boost the blacks and contrast, as well as reduce some of the noise in the original image. I then transferred the image to Photoshop Elements, and used the burn tool to darken the shadow of the heart a little more.In my camera bag
My camera body is a Canon 60D, that I usually keep a kit lens on. (an 18-55 mm) For more special occasions, I'll pull out my 50mm fixed focal lens, or, for outdoorsy adventures and zoos, I've got a nice 55-250 mm that I use for that. All in all, my collection of lenses and accessories is just starting out, but I make due with what I have!Feedback
Even for a staged macro shot like this, a key thing that I've found is to still take multiple photos. Something may look good in the viewfinder and on the display of your camera, but then when you bring it into post-processing, the framing of one might look just slightly better than the other.
