Location
I took this photograph at Straub Park while at my daughters' swim meet in Saint Petersburg, Florida. They had to be at the pool before sunrise so I brought my gear and set up to wait for the sun to creep above the horizon.Time
This was taken at approximately 6:00 amLighting
Other than being in the perfect spot at the perfect time, I did nothing in the form of fill lighting. I just let Mother Nature do her thing!Equipment
I used a Nikon D3300 with a Nikon 35mm f1.8 lens. This set-up was mounted on a GorillaPod flexible tripod so I could get as low and as still as possible. I used a cable release to trip the shutter. I also snapped a photo of my ColorChecker Passport before I started my shots for the morning so I would have perfect color correction in post.Inspiration
Just being at this park at sunrise is awesome. There are usually many people walking/running or exercising. For this shot, there was another photographer with a recently engaged couple taking some engagement pictures at the waters edge and this made for the perfect silhouettes that you see in my photo.Editing
Yes this photo was run through Lightroom 6 and aside from basic adjustments, I used a graduated filter on the sky to slightly darken and cool the sky in the top of the image to accent the sun.In my camera bag
Recently, I have a Nikon D300 with a Nikkor 60mm f2.8 (Japanese made) and a Tamron 16-300mm f3.5-f6.3 I alway keep my Breakthrough Photography filters (3 stop, 6 stop, and their CPL) in my bag as well as the X-Rite ColorChecker Passport.Feedback
I would say do your homework in scoping out your spots to set up. I have shot in this same spot at least 6 times before but the people at the waters edge added that extra element I was looking for.
