Location
I visited Cusco, high in the Peruvian Andes, following a trek to Machu Picchu. This shot of a group of Inca sitting on the steps in front of Cusco cathedral is one of my favourite travel photographs. I like to think that one guy is telling the others a good joke, and they're all waiting for the punchline.Time
The shot was taken mid-morning.Lighting
A slightly overcast day, but at very high altitude, so the extra UV could have had the effect of fooling the camera's sensors as far as colour temperature was concerned. I made some alterations in camera, but even so, I had to warm up the shot in post-production.Equipment
This was taken on my old Nikon D100, with a Sigma 24-300; my 'do-it-all' travel lens.Inspiration
This was a classic 'street shot'; no prep and no warning - just see it and shoot.Editing
I cropped the shot, tweaked the colour temperature and did a little sharpening. Other than that there was no work done.In my camera bag
Nowadays, I often shoot with my iPhone 6s, but my 'real' kit is a Nikon D300s, with a Nikkor 50mm f1.4 and a mixed bunch of lenses. I still use my all-in-one Sigma, but if I spring for a full-frame camera I'm going to have to have a rethink!Feedback
The best advice I can offer is to look! All too often, we walk around with our eyes on the ground, when if we lift our heads and really look there are great images everywhere.
