Location
I captured this photo while staying on Inle Lake in Shan State, Myanmar.Time
This was taken early morning during sunrise, however the clouds acted as a giant diffuser so there wasn't much golden hour light which in a way helped bring out the vibrancy of the lilies on the waters surface.Lighting
The Inle Lake fishermen are very popular subject for a lot of photographers visiting Myanmar, and they were a subject I had wanted to photograph for a long time. I like to think that this shot is somewhat original despite the fishermen becoming a cliche these days. The mood and composition of this particular image is something I hadn't seen captured before even though these men have appeared in hundreds of other images by other photographers.Equipment
I used my Canon 6D with Canon 16-35mm f2.8L mounted to my MeFoto travel tripod, which I set up on the edge of the bridge titled down to capture the overhead perspective.Inspiration
As mentioned above, the inspiration came from seeing other fishermen photos on the web, but I wanted to do it differently, more to my own style. I love working with different colours so the flowers inspired me to position the men amongst the array of colours to get a more engaging image rather than just having the men strike up a pose on their boats in the middle of the lake.Editing
Minimal editing was done here as the image didn't need much alteration. The main adjustment was colour balance to make the flowers pop against the dark water. I also adjusted curves, contrast and clarity to enhance the mood.In my camera bag
There days I carry only my Fujifilm XT2 with Fujifilm 23mm f2 prime lens, which is used for my street photography. I used to travel with my Canon DSLR system but the weight became a bit of a burden, which is why I chose to downsize my kit to mirrorless with only one prime lens. I sometimes carry my tripod but often I shoot handheld so there's no need for the added weightFeedback
One thing I can say for anyone wishing to visit Inle Lake to photograph the fishermen, is just think outside the box. Don't go there and copy the works of other photographers. Be yourself, shoot your own style. If you do this, your work will stand out from the crowd.
