Not much post-processing but careful setup of light and background before the camera. Very hot day.

Behind The Lens

Location

I took this at a workshop near Palm Springs. In that workshop we would make our best pictures we could during the day and then have them reviewed in the evening. Good fast feedback is very helpful. I want to credit the model, Nymph, for working with me to improve this photograph. I have been photographing her for about five years and she is both a wonderful model and a wonderful person. Thank you Nymph!

Time

Full sun, just after lunch. The black background is from a tent that was set up to defuse light, but I needed the bright directional light from the sun.

Lighting

Lighting was very simple, just full sun on the model.

Equipment

Sony A99 with 24-70mm lens

Inspiration

Waterfalls. Bodyscapes. Bright directional sun that might make diamonds as it went through the drops of water.

Editing

Very little post processing was needed. I checked the exposure and cropping and added a bit of contrast. The interesting color is from the coconut oil the model put on before she poured water over herself.

In my camera bag

For photographing models in daylight all I take is my Sony A99 and a 24-70mm lens. As the workshop location was also where we were staying I had no need to carry any other equipment with me. I normally pack my bag with the gear that I think I will need for the day. I try to travel light.

Feedback

Experiment! Try multiple times, multiple ways. Think about the angle of the light, what the rays of light will interact with, and what you are trying to accomplish. Work with the model. The often have more experience than you do. Show them results every 2-3 pictures you take and that will help them improve their pose. Doing something like this is a team effort.
