Behind The Lens

Location

I took this in a college library with one of my favorite models I have worked with. I love the long rows and aisles and wanted to utilize that for the shot.

Time

Not sure what time of day. I think it was around late afternoon.

Lighting

It definitely isn't the best lighting. I think it is just overhead fluorescent lighting. I would have liked to have a little more front lighting but I still love the shot.

Equipment

I was using my Canon 5D MKII. I had on my Canon 85mm set at f/1.2 to get that very shallow depth of field.

Inspiration

I wanted to use the long aisle so I could blur out most of the shot when set at f/1.2 and it definitely worked.

Editing

I did basic post processing.

In my camera bag

My go to camera is my Canon 5D MKII and I usually have my Sigma 70-200 mm lens glued to it. But when I need the wide angles I'll put on my Tamron 17-35mm. But then when I need the close up I bring out my trusty work horse Canon 100mm macro lens.

Feedback

I would always suggest that if you have the choice of a good camera body or a good lens go with the good lens. It makes a difference with the quality and settings for the camera. I would not have been able to get that shallow depth of field with any other lens. Look for inspiration in all places even if they are a little out of the ordinary. I love all kinds of architecture and sometimes you can stumble on to a gem.
