Location
This photo was taken at a butterfly sanctuary at Honor Heights Park in Muskogee Oklahoma. This sanctuary is called The Papilion and was constructed by Georgia Pacific, a local paper manufacturing plant, and dedicated to a little girl who in her short life loved butterflies. These beautiful sunflowers are propagated throughout the sanctuary as well as many other flowers that attract butterflies naturally. This particular flower was not in the enclosed part of the sanctuary but part of the open air Papilion for naturally migrating butterflies.Time
This photo was taken in the mid morning after a brief rain shower in September 2015.Lighting
The lighting was beautiful with the cloud cover still mostly present after the rain shower.Equipment
This was shot with my Nikon D5300 with the kit lens 18-55mm. Natural light only.Inspiration
I was there to capture butterflies, but this particular flower had been bent over and was jutting out into the pathway as if asking to have it's photo taken. The water droplets hanging from the stem were part of what drew my attention to this flower.Editing
Yes I did a little post processing in Lightroom. This was one of my very first attempts of post processing. I've learned a lot since editing this particular photo. In my camera bag
My LowePro backpack camera bag has just a few basics. I carry my Nikon D5300 with the standard kit lens attached most of the time (18-55mm), I also have a Nikon 55-200mm zoom lens that goes everywhere with me along with a Manfrotto medium weight tripod in tow. Also in my bag are the usual accessories to keep lenses clean and remotes for long exposures.Feedback
Living in Oklahoma, the weather is quite changeable. They say here, "if you don't like the weather, wait 20 minutes". That may not be quite accurate but sometimes it seems so. Muskogee is just west of the base of Ozark Mountains and storms can pop up with little warning. I love to be ready to shoot just after a rain. I find some of the most magnificent lighting that is rapidly changing during these times. I've had to run for cover so my equipment doesn't get wet but that just adds to the excitement of the capture.
