Location
After driving through Chandelier, a massive redwood tree in Leggett, California, I came across a majestic bullfrog pond where this happy creature was sunbathing.Time
It was a beautiful sunny summer evening, around 4pm.Lighting
I set the camera to auto-focus with flash and aimed with a single-point on the frog's face. Since it was afternoon in the great outdoors, this allowed enough ample natural lighting and interesting water reflections. I'm quite pleased with the clarity considering I zoomed in from a distance.Equipment
This photo was shot on a Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ1000 25-600mm f/2.8 aperture lens with flash. No other equipment was used.Inspiration
I was captivated by the frog's smile. Nature's beauty is the source of my inspiration in capturing animals in unexpected and magnificent ways. I'm also intruiged by pure minimalistic subjects to evoke a sense of humanism and to tell a story.Editing
Slight color enhancements through iPhoto. This image has also been edited with an Instagram filter for bolder contrast and saturation. In my camera bag
I carry solely my DSLR Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ1000. It's a point and shoot single fixed lens with a powerful automatic zoom.Feedback
This was simply a case of being at the right place at the right time. Evenings lends itself to perfect lighting conditions along waterscapes and wildlife sightings. Exploration and patience is key!
