a most unexpected discovery in my backyard one afternoon....a mother and baby brush-tailed possum ..usually nocturnal, this mother and baby were setting the cockatoos off non-stop screeching one afternoon..the birds were letting everyone know LOUDLY that they shouldn't be there!!...I love catching a glimpse of the local nocturnal wildlife (which I usually only hear go bump in the night)

Great capture. We have Opossums visit us early evening for the snacks/scraps we throw out. They are such funny things to watch - sitting on their back legs and holding the food in their front legs. They make the funniest noises. We also hear them running across the deck.

Location
I took this photo in my backyard one afternoon... living in the suburbs of Sydney, Australia we are surrounded by lots of gum trees with many birds, reptiles, spiders and nocturnal critters.Time
On this particular day, the white cockatoos were screeching non-stop for a good 20 minutes - which they usually do if something shouldn't be in "their tree" (usually it's a snake or goanna threatening their eggs etc)... Anyway, this particular afternoon the noise was prolonged and deafening so I went out to investigate and found this mother brush-tailed possum with a little baby on her back... trying to scamper back to the safety of a darker (and quieter) hollow of the tree - I think too terrified to move because of the ruckus of the cockatoos with their every movement!Lighting
Natural sunlight but I'm pretty sure the in-built camera flash fired (which I remember feeling bad about, as they are nocturnal and I didn't want to hurt their sensitive eyes)Equipment
This was with my old Nikon D70, hand held, AF Zoom Nikkor 28-200mm f.3,5-5.6G.Inspiration
It's not too often you get to see the nocturnal wildlife during the daylight hours... and especially a mum with her little baby.Editing
My post-processing skills are very, very limited - I love the ease and simplicity of Pic Monkey, so usually just sharpen, straighten and maybe tweak some tones or other simple basic tools - and for some odd reason added a frame to this pic LOL...In my camera bag
ummm.. i don't have a "bag" - my camera is usually always with me in an old soft PJ bag, or sitting beside me on my desk...it's never been far from my side throughout my life, so always accessible - I use the one zoom lens always - 28mm-200mm - I'm a creature of habit - I'm not a photographer, I just love taking photos and have always documented my life and surrounds through my camera - since I was a child.Feedback
No... just enjoy the details around you, it's all intricately woven; keep observing and viewing life from many standard as well as unique angles - go behind the scenes sometimes to get a different perspective - but most of all enjoy the process, never stop wondering and never stop learning!
