The photo of the branches was taken in the woods near Pine, Arizona. While riding an ATV looking for shots during a vacation I cam upon these dead branches that had grown from the ground horizontally. The face is my own that I shot in my home studio specifically to merge with the branches image.Time
The branches were mid-day with the sunlight obscured by trees but providing enough light to have shadows.Lighting
Typically overhead sun is discouraged, but it worked out well for the shot in the woods.Equipment
Camera was my trusty Canon 7D for both images, handheld in the woods and tripod in the studio. A canon strobe was used in the studio as well and I use mostly Canon lenses and did for this project.Inspiration
The branches were very interesting in that I had never seen the horizontal aspect almost like a tree growing in branch formation right out of the ground.Editing
Absolutely, I always use Adobe Lightroom on all photos to dodge/burn and generally tweak my work. Here I also used Photoshop to add the head profile. In my camera bag
Canon 7D with double battery attachment, as many lenses as will fit, lens cleaning supplies, my swivel strap, multiple memory cards, strobe, card reader, charging units.Feedback
After shooting interesting shots in nature, I will often come back after months or even years to see how I might enhance them. That was the case with this image. I was prompted by a double exposure contest on Viewbug to create this image which has been pretty popular and I was very happy with the results.
