Behind The Lens

Location

The photo was taken at meadow at island of Korcula, Croatia. As it was spring season entire nature was blooming with plants and flowers.

Time

3:27 PM (April 14)

Lighting

Just natural afternoon sunlight without any modifiers or bouncing. Warm strong light actually helped to create mood here, as it emphasized delicacy of the partially translucent petals.

Equipment

Canon EOS 60D camera and Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 lens with an aperture set to f/2.8. Exposure duration was set to 1/3200 seconds at ISO 100 sensitivity.

Inspiration

I always shoot all sorts of motives and subjects :)

Editing

Exposure adjustment (original image file was slightly underexposed to preserve detail in white petals), as well as slight shadow, contrast and colours adjustments.

In my camera bag

Canon EOS 60D as main camera, wide range of lenses covering focal lengths from 8mm to 250mm, including mainly native Canon EF/EF-S mount lenses (Samyang 8mm f/3.5 Fish-eye, Sigma 10-20mm f/4-5.6, Tamron 17-50mm f/2.8, Canon EF-S 18-55mm IS, Canon EF-S 18-55mm IS, Canon EF 50mm f/1.8, Canon EF 85mm f/1.8), as well as some old manual focus lenses with M42 and Pentax-K mounts used via adapters (Auto Revuenon MC 28mm f/2.8, Macro-Revuenon MC 35mm f/2.8, Helios 44M 58mm f/2, Helios 44M-4 58mm f/2, Auto Beroflex 100mm f/2.8, HC Carenar 135mm f/2.8). Various lens filters, Close-up lens for macro use, tripod, two Yongnuo YN560 manual flashes, remote triggers, etc. Recently I've purchased second-hand Sony a5000 mirrorless with 16-50mm f/3.5-5.6 lens to use mainly as travel camera.

Feedback

Use interesting point of view, pay attention to light, focusing, depth of field and background. If it's windy (and usually is) use fast enough shutter speed (unless intention is to get motion blur) as necessary - 1/800 sec should be fine for almost all windy conditions. If it's very windy accurate focusing becomes virtually impossible.
