Location
I took this at the local wildlife park - I was planning to photograph the birds there - so i was ready when the owl turned and looked straight at me.Time
Mid afternoon.Lighting
Was in a large open space that is covered by a canopy that naturally filtered the light form the sun.Equipment
Olympus OM-D EM-1 body with Olympus 40-150 f2.8 (80-300 full frame equivalent). I love shooting with this combination in the field because it is so light but offers great reach for it's size.Inspiration
I wanted to shoot some tight shots of the birds - so went prepared and ready - no particular inspiration except to always take my photography to another level.Editing
Minimal - White balance, contrast, light sharpening. In my camera bag
Field work - 2 x Olympus OM-D EM-1's, Olympus 12-40 f2.8, Olympus, 40-150 f2.8 + 1.4 teleconverter, Leica/Lumix 42.5 f1.2, Olympus 75 f1.8, Olympus 7-14 f2.8, Olympus 60 f2.8 Macro, 2 x Olympus flash. Weddings - 2 x Canon 5D3's, Canon 24-70 f2.8 L MkII, Canon 70-200 f2.8 L MkII, Canon 50 f1.4, Canon 85 f1.8, Canon 16-35 f2.8 L MkII, Canon 100 f2.8 Macro, Canon 14 f2.8 L, Canon 135 f2 L, 2 x Canon 600EX-RT flash units, Westcott Ice Light, Spider double holster camera belt.Feedback
Constantly practice with your camera so you know how to work it blindfolded, know what you want to shoot that day, go with a plan that is going to give you the best light for what you want to shoot, be patient and wait for the best shot. There are so many people who can't wait and so they miss a shot like this when the bird looks straight at you for a second and you get one chance.
