Location
This image was taken at a small car show in Hampton Virginia, about 3 years ago. That day started early for this young woman and I, for we were shooting on the beach around 5am that morning. By the time of this image she was exhausted, hot, and tired, but needless to say, still more beautiful than ever.Time
It was around noon when this particular image was captured. The temperature that day was had to be in upper 90’s, so you can only image how hot it was in the back seat of this vintage Mercedes.Lighting
I used natural light for this image. The sun was high overhead with no cloud coverage.Equipment
Canon EOS- 1D Mark IV, F-3.5, ISO 800, 1/2000Inspiration
This inspiration for this photo was the exhaustion this young woman was feeling, but how beautifully she hid it behind those eyes. The car offered only shade, not relief;and seeing her resting in the back seat, hot, sweaty, yet innocently inviting was a moment and image that I thank God for me having my camera in hand.Editing
Post-editing was kept to minimum, for much was not needed. I converted the original image from color to black and white. I dodged the young woman’s eye and lips to draw more attention to them, and applied slight sharpening. In my camera bag
My normal carry is as follows: Canon 1D Mark IV, Canon 5D Mark III, 24-104mm f-4, 24-70mm f-2.8, 70-200mm f-2.8, 50mm f-1.8, 580 EX II Speedlite, and a Canon G11. everything else is just batteries, CF cards etc.Feedback
A major key to a beautiful image is to use a beautiful subject. In this case, all of my work was done for me; all that I had to do was be in the right place at the right time, and ready. Keep your eyes open for candid moments and teach yourself to predict candid moments to come.
