Location
This photo was taken in my bedroom which has a huge window with natural flowing light.Time
This was captured in early afternoon light, around 3PM. I used a black velvet piece of material for the background and taped it to my cabinet which served as my 'wall'.Lighting
I used natural light coming from that huge window because I didn't have a flash.Equipment
this was back in 2010 or 2012; used my very first Nikon D90 with the camera kit lens. No flash only natural light.Inspiration
I came across this particular calla lily while searching for a white one. I was going through a deep sadness and all I could do was capture photos of flowers. Something in this flower's coloring spoke to an emotional side of me. It was such a happy flower in its colors. The shape was closed yet open at the same time, as if it had not decided what it wanted to be 'closed or open' similar to us at times, we can be closed and open all in one emotion. Although it had not decided what it wanted to be, it had lovely curves and colors and it reminded me of an endless road open to possibilities.Editing
The flower sat in a clear vase which I had to Photoshop out. I specifically kept the stem slightly soft. . .In my camera bag
I always carry an extra battery, extra SD/CF cards. I am now using Nikon's D810 and love the kit lens it comes with. Its my 'go to' lens because its so versatile.Feedback
Look at flowers carefully; choose flowers that are free from broken petals or petals that have started to brown. Enjoy the flowers as you capture them. They are here for a short time, but during that time, they give us so much and ask for nothing in return.
