Behind The Lens

Location

This photo is of the light at Peggy's Cove in Nova Scotia Canada

Time

This photo was taken early in the morning.

Lighting

The sun was to my back which allowed the shading on the right side of the lighthouse. After looking at it from an angle that lit the entire lighthouse I decided that the contrast of the shading on the third side allowed for a better definition of the six sided lighthouse

Equipment

This was shot with a Nikon P510. I had it on Aperture control to increase the depth of field.

Inspiration

I was on vacation and went to shot around Peggy's Cove. I was looking for angles to shot the lighthouse and not have a lot of people around it, staying away from the normal vacation picture. I was able to get low enough to shot up towards the rock formation to eliminate the people around the base, giving it a look of solitude.

Editing

I did very little processing as the light was right and had not effected the sky. I did add the reflective image to the photo.

In my camera bag

I now just use the P510.

Feedback

The thing I try to do when photographing objects like this is to think out of the box and look for different angles to shoot from. I like to get low to things and also look for something I can put in the foreground to add interest. On this shoot I planned to get there early in the day so that the sun would be an advantage to the lighting.
