Behind The Lens

Location

I took this photo in Denver, Colorado in my upstairs studio of my house.

Time

This was shot in the late evening after a Cain finished a hard days work.

Lighting

I used a single flash shot through a translucent umbrella set to Cains' left to accent his face and tattoos. Pretty much a Rembrandt lighting scheme.a

Equipment

A Nikon D100 camera with a 38-105mm zoom. Off camera flash shot through a translucent umbrella.

Inspiration

Goodfellas! I was wanting to emulate the tough guy mob look, even though Cain was the most laid back guy you'd ever want to meet.converted to

Editing

Converted to Black and White, increased contrast a bit and got rid of a little light leak on the background.

In my camera bag

2-Nikon D90's, 28-105mm zoom, 85mm f1.4 portrait lens, 70-200mm f2.8 zoom lens, 2- Deitz flash units

Feedback

Practice your lighting setups. If you don't have flash heads try shooting with continuous light sources. Bouncing or shoot through umbrellas or other diffusers are awesome.
