This photo was taken at the pueblo of San Sebastian, Puerto Rico, There is a river with two spectacular waterfalls I am at the one above and decided to wander off into the river going down, it's very slippery in some areas, I came from behind this small waterfall and wanted to see what it would look like from about where I am when I took this shot, all I can say is it was meant to happen, I could not have felt any happier I was taking photos all morning and it wasn't till this find that I knew I captured the ultimate moment, that moment you feel when nature has giving you her best side!Time
I got there at 7:30 AM and started working my way from the bottom waterfalls on up the the second one above and it's a hike but the trail is easy I also stopped in between the river looking for something new to capture, I finally got this shot at 11:05 AMLighting
First thing I noticed there was lots of shadow in this spot with tall trees acting like a canopy and that's also what I was looking for so I could get a long exposure shot I used no filters so I needed the light to be low and this was it!Equipment
Nikon D300, 18-70mm Nikon lens, tripod and that was it, I really don't like to carry too much weight on my backInspiration
Every time I come to these waterfalls I always bring home a piece of it with me and every time I go I find a spot no one has captured or imagined before it Inspires me to keep pushing myself to keep looking, I believe there's a positive message, a story anything out there everywhere and anywhere just waiting to be captured and sharedEditing
I don't do any blending or HDR and even luminosity Mask at least not yet for LM, I tend to keep it as real as possible the camera for whatever the value will never capture the scenery the way I saw it with my eyes, I start my post-processing in Lightroom and finish in Photoshop, I Inspect the photo for any cleaning or healing like getting manmade objects out of the natural scene, I start with the sharpening and noise, exposure, highlights and shadows, vibrance and a tad of saturation, I also use selective colors only if I want my greens to be brighter or darker etc, then I go for Clarity to make it pop out a bit not to much just a dab of surrealism then I focus on composition and straightening and last vigneta and I always know how I'm going to work the photo from when I capture itIn my camera bag
Right now I have my trusty Nikon D300 and 10-24mm Tamron lens, a Pro Master tripod one and a small LowePro camera backpack that I've had since 2002 that has outlasted every other camera bag I've purchased after that and that's it, I do what I can with what I haveFeedback
It's best to do this on a good cloudy day or very early in the morning , you should have an ND filter ready for when the day begins to brighten just in case or find a good location where you have trees covering up above the light coming in to harsh, It's even better when it rains the day before because it gives good contrast and some mist in the air, you should also check the weather the day before for possible floods in the area you will be in, and last! Always work your way to that shot, don't think it's going to come in one capture you have to work until you know for sure you just captured that ultimate moment
