A creative blend : Two images hand blended. The first, taken after sunset and before moonrise, of the sky, with Milky Way. The second, from the same spot, taken before sunrise, with the moon ( about a week past full) high in the sky behind me,illuminating the rocks. The sun is still well below the horizon, but its light is creating the glow on the horizon.

Looks like an impossible shot to take.. post processing works wonders. Glad you took the time to describe the process for your viewers. Thanks.

You know what I love even more than the STUNNING photo? That you took the time to explain both how you processed it and why you chose to do it the way you did. Brilliant.

Location
This was taken at Picnic Rocks, in Mt William National Park, on the east coast of Tasmania, Australia.Time
One frame ( for the Milky Way) was taken about 10 pm. The other was taken about 5 am just before dawn,Lighting
Th rocks are illuminated by the moon which was high in the sky and almost full, behind.me. The horizon is illuminated by the sun, which is below the horizon, about to rise.Equipment
I used a Nikon D810, Nikkor 14-24mm lens, Really Right Stuff Tripod. No flash, No filters. A lot of patience for the right conditions.Inspiration
Nature inspired me. And the stars. A connection to both. To the life and healing nature gives, and to the possibilities in the stars. To combine both gives an image of hope.Editing
The post processing involved hand blending the image with the Milky Way, taken before moonrise at around 10 pm, with the image taken about seven hours later with the rocks illuminated by the moon, and the sun about to rise. Some tonal enhancement was also done by hand using luminosity masks in Photoshop. In my camera bag
Nikon D810, Nikkor lenses : 14-24 mms/2.8; 24-70mm f/2.8; 80-400mm f4.5-5.6; 105mm micro. RRS L-plate. Really Right Stuff TVC 24L Tripod, Acratech ball head, Fotodiox Wonderpana filters, Singh Ray filters, remote shutter release, hot-shoe bubble level. waders lens cloths and kimwipes clear shower caps, raincoat for camera.Feedback
Connect with the earth. Through your spirit. Become inspired by your feelings for the landscape. Pre-visualise. Research the moon, the tides, sunrise, sunset. Pre-visualise some more. Don't use presets. Put your camera into manual mode, and learn to process by hand in Photoshop. Only then do you have control over the creative process, and achieving your vision.
