Location
This photo was taken on a friends pool patio.Time
It was early evening when I shot this image. Probably an hour before sunset.Lighting
The lighting in this photo is 100% natural.Equipment
This was shot with a Canon Rebel T4i and an 85 1.8. Plus a dog treat or two for attention ;)Inspiration
This photo was actually just a practice shot. I had just purchased a new lens (85 1.8) and was so excited to play with it before an upcoming shoot. I was a nanny for a family who had recently welcomed the most gorgeous new puppy into their home and I could not resist getting photos of him. It was a miracle I was able to get him to sit still long enough for this to happen and I didn't even realize the photo had turned out as nice as it had until later when I was viewing it on my computer. I can honestly say it's on of my personal favorites though.Editing
Yes, I did some minor post processing to this photo. I bumped my exposure up slightly and added some slight contrast. I also sharpened the photo to make the puppy's eyes pop just a little more than they already did.In my camera bag
I'm so guilty of over packing my bag. I never leave without my Canon 6D with my 50 1.4 attached. 90% of the time this is all I use. I usually also throw in my 35 2.0 and 85 1.8 just in case I feel like switching it up or need to get a wider or closer shot. I'm such a lover of prime lenses!Feedback
Never shoot down a background too soon. I would have never expected a cracked concrete patio to create such a beautiful background, but I gave it a shot and it was so worth it. Always be creative. As photographers we have a gift of seeing something others may not see and we are able to create magic from it; use this to your advantage.
