Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken at my studio.

Time

This particular image was shot in the middle of the day, but again in my studio.

Lighting

I placed two strip boxes on either side of the model and adjusted the distance until I go the look I was going for.

Equipment

I shoot with a Canon 6D, and the Canon 70-200 f/2.8L. The strobes are the Alien Bee 800's.

Inspiration

I really like her outfit that she chose and wanted to give it a little bit more of an edge. But, since she was not in athletic attire, I had her turn her head towards one of the lights. She has an awesome profile and it worked great!

Editing

I basically have the same post processing workflow; shoot in RAW, import to LR make my basic adjustments, move to Photoshop and do some skin touch ups and some dodging and burning. In this case though, very little skin was showing and I just cleaned up the skin on her face. Really did not take that much time.

In my camera bag

I always have two lenses with me; the 70-200mm f/2.8L and the Sigma 50mm f/1.4 ART. Both are fantastic lenses! I also usually will carry at least one speed light with me, just for those special lighting needs when out and about.

Feedback

I would say for those that are starting out in studio lighting, they should really learn to build one their lighting one light at a time. Also, do not be afraid of shadows and do not be afraid to experiment. I had her try several poses, including looking straight on and I felt it was a little too ominous. The turn of the head really nailed it!
