Location
This shot was taken at Minard strand on the Dingle peninsula, Co Kerry.Time
It was shot around lunchtime, on a relatively bright calm day for the Atlantic waves on Ireland's west coast. The setting were ISO 100, F/11, 4.4 seconds, with a 10 stop ND filter.Lighting
Its all natural lighting but with a Hitech 10 stop ND filter, which unfortunately gave it a very blue cast, hence the conversion to B&W.Equipment
The camera used on this occasion was a Nikon D300s with a Nikon 18-200, 10 stop ND filter, tripod and remote release.Inspiration
I just love water shots and especially long exposure water shots and there is no batter spot for it than Co. Kerry.Editing
The image was processed in Photoshop Elements, firstly to remove the blue cast caused by the ND filter, then to remove airplane trails in the sky, then ultimately to adjust the contrast, shadows and high lights. In my camera bag
This have moved on from 2013 and in the bag I currently carry I have:- - Nikon D750 with 4 batteries - Nikon 16-35 F4 (primary Landscape lens), a Sigma 24-105 Art F4 (walk about lens) and occasionally a Sigma 70-200 F2.8 - 3 filter system Hard Grad ND filters 1 stop, 2 stop & 3 Stop - 3 filter system Full Grad ND Filters 6 stop, 10 stop & 13 stop - 2 screw on Full Grads, 6 stop and 10 stop. - Wireless Remote - Manfrotto Carbon Fibre Tripod - Leatherman look alike - cleaning clothes, wipes and rain coverFeedback
1. Don't take any risks and know the area you shooting in, rocks, tides and waves are dangerous. no shot is worth your life or your gear 2. Secondly stay dry & warm, that means good jacket over trousers and wellies to start with and on occasions waders. 3. Shoot the waves just after they break and start to go out. 5. Keep increasing/decreasing the shutter speed to get the effect you want 6. Adjust the settings as the light changes, as it gets darker in the evening up the ISO or drop down the filter from say an ND 10 to ND 6 or even leave it off. 7. Don't forget the horizon and whats above it, that can burn out the image, so use ND grads. 8. Keep an eye out for a rogue wave.
