Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken in downtown Sandusky, Ohio, near the shores of Lake Erie. I am a self taught photographer, and have a love and appreciation for the beautiful, ornately detailed architecture of the grand old homes like this beauty, that I came across while out on a walk with my dog one day. I just had to snap a few shots.

Time

This photo was taken in the mid afternoon, on a cloudy summer day.

Lighting

The lighting was natural, mid day sunlight, with a lot of of clouds, which helped create the ominous looking sky.

Equipment

This photo was taken with my Samsung Galaxy S8 Edge's camera.

Inspiration

I love the beautiful detail of the old homes. So dramatic. Which was my inspiration for this photo. Looking up at this amazing house, with the angry looking clouds as the back drop, presented me with the perfect photo opportunity.

Editing

I did some post-processing to help enhance the dramatic feel of the photo. I also shot the original in color, and chose to use the black and white effect post-processing. I feel, the drama and detail are more pronounced in black and white.

In my camera bag

I don't have any expensive equipment. Just my Samsung Galaxy S8 Edge, and an eye and passion for photography.

Feedback

To get this look, the angle was key. I sat at the base of the house, with my camera held at an extreme angle, to maximize the dramatic and imposing appearance of the house. I tilted and turned my camera until I had just the angle I was aiming for.
