Behind The Lens

Location

We planned to visit Amsterdam and we (my wife and I) considered the opportunity to organize a shooting with a designer friend of us in a mansion.

Time

We shot in the afternoon, but the time was not really important since I used flashlights.

Lighting

A classic setup, a single softbox.

Equipment

I used a Canon 5D MK III with Canon lens 24-70 2.8 on a tripod. I also used one studio flash with a soft box 90 x 60 cm.

Inspiration

That was easy, everything was inspiring me, the model, the location, the dress, the make-up and hair done by my wife. I love Victorian-fantasy princess fashion stories and looks, that's why I was in the best mood to take that shot.

Editing

It's a classic post processing for fashion pictures, Dodge and burn, skin correction (very easy with this model with her perfect skin) and some adjustments of light and colors done in Lightroom. No special filters were used.

In my camera bag

Always too much, but the minimum I always carry would be: my new Canon 5DSR 3 canon lenses from 16mm to 200mm 2.8 a flash and a round flash reflector. And other goodies.

Feedback

There is no secret, the only way I know to capture fashion shots, is to work with a high selected team (model, makeup artist, designers, hairstylist...) and unique locations. A good communication with the model is very important too. She needs to feel confident. Be sure that the model puts her hand softly near the face, by only barely touching, without pushing her fingertips in the skin, that looks more elegant.
