Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken in my dining room which was turned into a photo studio for the session. I had a tan blanket that didn't have too many creases to hang in the background.

Time

We stayed up late taking photo and trying different outfits so this photo was taken late a night.

Lighting

This was a two light set up. The strobe was bounced off the wall on her left. I also had a backlight on her right that normally use when working on my car. I used the backlight to get ride of any shadows that would show on the backdrop.

Equipment

This was shot on a Canon Rebel 1000D with a 50mm at f / 2.8. My flash is a Yongnuo 560 and was set up on a tripod to go off with my shutter. I got down low for this one, laying on my stomach to get the angle I wanted.

Inspiration

We were taking photos for her Senior Portrait and were trying out different poses.

Editing

The original photo was shot in color so it was converted to black and white using Lightroom. Small adjustments with sharpness, shadows and highlights were done as well.

In my camera bag

My equipment has not changed in a long time. I have a Canon Rebel 1000D and three lenses. A 50mm 1.4, 18-55mm and a 55-200mm.

Feedback

Don't just do the same typical poses. Try several and let your model pose themselves and you should be able to capture something amazing.
