I took this photo in a Colorado Zoo. I was just fraction of seconds too late for a kiss on the head!Time
This was midday or for most photographers, worst lighting you can get :)Lighting
If you look closely at the photo you can see the lighting is coming from above hence, midday lighting. It normally creates bad shadows under nose and eyes but in this case the subject overpowers the rules!Equipment
This was shot with an old Pentax ist DS camera years ago at 1/500, ISO 200 at f/6.3. I'm sure I used a zoom lens as my focal length was 148mm. It's been so long I forgot what I used. Natural light no tripod.Inspiration
Spur of the moment.Editing
I did a lot of post processing yes. My F stop was at 6.3 which means a lot of the background was in focus. I used Photoshop to edit the background to be the way it is.In my camera bag
Currently I use a Canon 6D (yes I switched to Canon and will never look back!) a tamron 28-75mm and canon 50mm 1.8. Today I focus on newborns and families so my choice of lenses are very different than when photography was a hobby (when I took the giraffe family photo).Feedback
For me it was the right place at the right time. For Zoo photography the best thing you can do is familiarize yourself with the zoo, their schedule, when new babies are born etc. Plan your visits carefully and use a zoom lens up to 300 mm and tripod for better pictures.
