Behind The Lens

Location

this photo was taken in summer at a location in suffolk..the little owls have been there for a few years..

Time

taken mid morning whilst sitting in my van with my nikon 500mm f4 resting on the door...

Lighting

for birds my white balance is set on cloudy most of my the time..

Equipment

nikon d810 and a nikon 500mm f4 and 1.4x nikon converter...gimbal head and manfrotto tripod..

Inspiration

had a good tip off from another wildlife photographer as to the location and activity of these beautiful little owls so we parked up early and waited for them to start hunting...they did not dissapoint us

Editing

shot raw and put into lightroom...10% crop and slightly upped the contrast as it was a very sunny day and my camera was on my normal setting of cloudy white balance...

In my camera bag

well i do lots of macro when out shooting birds so my macro consists of a nikon d800 - nikon 105mm f2.8 - nikon sb700 flash and my own adapted bracket to bring my flash closer to the front of my lens...also carry a nikon 70 -200 mk1 f2.8

Feedback

if you find or hear of a location for little owls i tend to find they are quite unnerved by relatively close contact with people if you sit back and let them hunt...they tend to hop about on the ground and chase bugs if they are available..
