Location
This is a dahlia (cactus variety) and the photo was taken in Arnold's garden - Rochester NYTime
It was taken late in the afternoonLighting
The afternoon sun was shining on the flower so it gave it an extra special glowEquipment
Kodak EasyShare Z885 Digital Camera - no flash or other equipment was usedInspiration
I love taking photos of beautiful flowers of all kinds especially unusual ones. I always chose my photo titles carefully and since I darkened the background and the flower itself had glowing spiked petals with contrasting tips it reminded me of a fireworks burst in the night sky hence the title "Mother Nature's Fireworks."Editing
I used Roxio Creator NXT 3 software to darken the background, crop the picture, and clean up some minimal spots on the flowerIn my camera bag
Lens cleaner, extra digital card, and lots of batteriesFeedback
I often take most of my pictures without a flash because I like the way they look much better in the natural light of wherever they are located. I often play around with the auto vs macro setting to see which gives me the best and sharpest photo. If you find a very special subject that you want to take a picture of, take more than one and try taking it from different angles as well. Never be afraid to experiment not only when taking the photo, but also when editing it.
