Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken in my back yard!! My home is surrounded by wheat fields and is located in the beautiful "Palouse Country" of Washington State.

Time

It was about 5 in the morning and I peeked out my bedroom window. The sun was barely peeking over the ridge behind my house. I could see the beginnings of a brilliant sunrise and jumped out of bed. Still in my pajamas I pulled on my knee high rubber boots and grabbed my favorite picture taker...my Samsung Galaxy cell phone camera. The wheat was nearly chest high as I waded to the top of the hill. It is quite a hike and I was moving fast because I knew this was a sunrise I did not want to miss. At the top I was breathing hard. I took a few deep breaths and steadied my phone. I took many photos during the next 45 minutes and each picture I captured changed as the sun made it's way into the sky.

Lighting

The light of the sunrise changed with each passing minute. Patience and being willing to take many pictures gave me the chance to pick the picture with the optimum color and brilliance. Field pictures are ideal at sunrise and sunset and these are key times to look for that perfect picture.

Equipment

I used my Samsung Galaxy 5 cell phone camera.

Inspiration

I want others to experience the beauty I see everyday in the changing landscapes of the Palouse country in Washington State. I enjoy the challenge of creating beauty with a camera!

Editing

I used the Ipiccy photo editing program. It is easy to use and gives me all kinds of options. I increased the contrast, clarity and saturation to enhance my photo.

In my camera bag

I carry two cameras in my bag. My Samsung Galaxy 5 camera and an Olympus Stylus.

Feedback

The Palouse Country has it's own unique landscape. I have found that sunrise and sunset light lends itself to the optimum color and beauty in my photos. During these times I am always looking to see if there is that ideal light, cloud formation, sky color, etc. I know to move quickly because that ideal light can change quickly based on many factors. The sun can disappear without a trace, the wind can move clouds across the sun and you can lose the opportunity. I am rarely disappointed when I look for beauty in the Palouse.
