Location
This is a photo of the famous Golden Pavilion (Kinkaku-Ji) in Kyoto. It was taken near the entrance of the temple, on a winter snowy morning.Time
I woke up quite early this Feb 1st, and saw that it was snowing quite hard. This was a rare chance to make some different photos and I wasted no time to catch a cab and go for a little tour of several of my favorite temples around Kyoto. I arrived at the Golden Pavilion just after the morning opening and was lucky to catch this shot -- it was just after 9 am.Lighting
Very little light to speak of, but a beautiful stormy atmosphere where the only real color left was the gold of the pavilion. The spectacle of the Golden Pavilion under snow was magical.Equipment
I used my trusted Nikon D810 with a 24-70 mm f/2.8 zoom. Nothing else.Inspiration
The Golden Pavilion is without any doubt one of the most beautiful temple of Kyoto. Being able to see it under snow like this was a rare opportunity and a real pleasure. As soon as I saw the snow falling down, I got my gear together and went out to take advantage of the weather condition.Editing
Some basic tone adjustment and standard processing. There was simply no need for anything too fancy. In my camera bag
Well, I often do not carry a bag -- just my camera and a lens chosen for the purpose and photos I have in mind. In this case, I just took my D810 and the 24-70 mm zoom.Feedback
In this case, there is no secret -- the bad weather was the key point for this photo. So, it was simply a matter of going to the temple under the snow storm, and accepting these conditions.
