Location
The photo was taken on a very windy day on the south coast in England. The winds were hitting 70mph+ so the conditions made it very hard to get any shots.Time
I'd met a couple of friends and headed out from London at about 10am. A couple of hours later we were there getting battered by the wind.Lighting
It was a grey stormy overcast day so the light wasn't great. The lighthouse is built to be seen so the strong white paint stood out against the grey surroundings.Equipment
The wind was so strong it made hand heald photography too hard. I had a Nikon Df and 70-200mm lens mounted on a tripod. Even like this the shutter speed needed to be really high.Inspiration
Waves crashing over lighthouses always look great. When we saw how strong the winds were going to be we couldn't resist a trip to the coast to see how big the waves were.Editing
The photo was converted to black and white. This really helped to make the wave stand out.In my camera bag
I'm mainly carrying prime lenses. A 18mm, 25mm, 50mm and a 105mm. A good ND filter set for long exposures. A remote, a touch and a note pad with pen.Feedback
Even in bad weather conditions it's worth getting out and seen by what you can find.
