this photo was taken in Hamburg, Germany at the port. A friend of mine lured them closer with so food. It was a really nice day so the colors came out pretty good. Im a self-taught photographer and pretty new to the game at that point. I learned a lot about shutter speed and aperture that day.Time
I shot this photo in the afternoon, a lot of sun, a lot of wind. I was struggling all day to get a good photo because the sun was too high up but for this shot it worked perfectly.Lighting
It was shot with natural light only, no flash on the camera. i was lucky that there was a lot of wind. The seagulls had to turn their body in order to stay close to my food :D That worked for some pretty nice highlights and shadows.Equipment
I used the first DSLR i ever owned. A Canon 650d with a nifty fifty (canon 50mm f1.8)Inspiration
We were at the port so seagulls were everywhere. I took a lot of urban landscape photos that day but since they didn´t work out i started to look up and the seagulls put up a great show.Editing
i pushed the blues and the orange a little bit, plus some vignetting. pretty basicIn my camera bag
Now i have a really nice Sony a7r with the awesome 35mm prime always at hand. A lens i always carry with me is the Helios 55mm 2.0 an old ussr lens with a really nice swirly bokeh.Feedback
Shooting something like this with a big tele zoom will be dificult. get some food and the seagulls will come close. since you can´t direct them to do what you want you have to be patient and shoot a lot of images. They will almost stand still in the air in order to get the food so you don´t have to worry about focus speed. And of course, have fun!
