Location
I shot this photo while sitting on my roof in Berkeley california watching the hummingbird feeder. Hummingbirds are mesmerizing to watch. The highest recorded wingbeats for wild hummingbirds during hovering is 88 per second, and 90 per second during mating rituals. Hummingbirds are depicted in various legends of indigenous peoples, particularly central America and the Mayan. It is quite fitting as they're symbolic of joy due to the amount of energy they exude. This Annas is a female, like many other bird species the male is more vibrant. The male Annas has a bright pink throat that is most noticeable when attracting a female.Time
This was layer in the afternoon, probably around 4. Hummingbirds often are more actively feeding early morning and later afternoon.Lighting
I did enhance the lighting as well as playing with some filters to bring out the inage more. I enjoy doing this with many images as it's enjoyable to play with different creative presets to enhance the subject.Equipment
Nikon d7000 18-300 nikon lens, no tripod, hand-held, no flash ISO 800, Shutter 1200.Inspiration
I have always loved birds and have a particular affinity for hummingbirds, Corvids and Raptors. The speed of the hummingbird is impressive, and I was challenging myself to fine tune taking photos at fast Shutter speeds, always learning, always trying to improve.Editing
Yes, I enhanced it with a filter, yet don't recall specifically. Also, a touch of contrast to make it pop.In my camera bag
Camera, extra battery, sd card holder and sometimes an extra lens. Lately I've opted more for the Tamaron 18-400 as it's all around where I don't need to change lenses. I'm not big on tripods so I don't carry one with me.Feedback
Patience, practice, tutorials, yet Patience and just keep shooting. I make plenty of mistakes, yet with diligence and perseverance you will succeed.
