Behind The Lens

Location

I gathered up some old things around my house and captured this photo in my back yard. I purchased an old wooden ironing board at an estate sale along with vintage melmac coffee cups. That kicked off the set up for this image as I started finding other vintage items around my home to complete the still life.

Time

I took this photo at 4pm. Sweet light!

Lighting

I used natural daylight to create this image.

Equipment

I used my Canon DSL EOS and a SLIK tripod to create this image. Post processing was done using PhotoMatix. I did a 5 bracket exposure.

Inspiration

My morning ritual inspired me to take this photo. I love to drink coffee, listen to the radio and ponder what kind of photos I will take throughout the day. So I thought that I would pay tribute to my muse: music, coffee and Polaroid.

Editing

I did a 5 bracket exposure and did my post processing using Photo Matix.

In my camera bag

My most important equipment is a tripod. When I shoot using HDR, a tripod is a must!. I have several tripods, both small and large, but my favorite is a SLIK tripod. It's light weight, easy to use and is unbreakable. I always carry lens paper and a flashlight too.

Feedback

When shooting a still life , try many different variations on assembling your materials. Shoot the still life from several angles and heights. Incorporate several textures in your still life. Having wood and glass seems to be appealing. More importantly, have fun!
