The photo was taken at my "studio" (actually a spare bedroom set up as my studio) at home in Perth, Western Australia in September 2012. I was a complete novice then, having only owned a DSLR for less than a year, but I was keen!Time
It was taken in the afternoon. I had spent most of the afternoon taking photographs of dandelions and their seeds with my new macro lens. Amazing how time flies when you are doing something you really love.Lighting
It was taken indoors with flash.Equipment
I am a Nikon shooter and it was taken with my D700, 105mm Nikkor Macro Len and Nikon SB700 speedlight. I am assuming I used a tripod but it was such a long time ago, I can't honestly remember.Inspiration
At the time I took this I was a rank beginner and was three quarters of the way through a Project 365 (which I published at the end of that year) so I was taking photographs every day of anything and everything that caught my eye, offered a challenge or could advance my technique and skill.Editing
The reflection was added in post production, to add some interest. I would say it was sharpened, but I hate to say it but I don't remember how I achieved the blue light. It may have been chance or I may have used the blue slider. In my camera bag
These days I still carry my Nikon D700 as back-up but I shoot with a Nikon D750, which I absolutely love. I own the folllowing lenses: Nikkor 10-24mm f3.5 (left over from my very early DX days); Nikkor 24-70mm f2.8; Nikkor 105mm F2.8; Nikkor 85mm f1.4; Nikkor 70-300mm f4.5; and a Sigma 50mm f1.4. I recently bought a Mirex Shift/Lit adapter and a Pentax 50mm f4 67 lens, but have yet to completely master the tillt/shift technique, but I do love a challenge. I also have 2 x SB700 speedlights and an SB800 for good measure. My tripod is a Manfrotto and i have a geard 410 head. I recently purchased 10 stop and 3 stop filters from Breakthrough and a 6 stop from Hoya and love long exposure photography as I live near the ocean and very close to the river.Feedback
