This is one of my favorites! I was so lucky, it was actually taken in my front yard! I had just bought my first DSLR camera a few months prior to taking this photo. I am a self taught photographer, so my practice for photography was around my own yard. I live in a rural area in Indiana and I am surrounded by farm fields. So I am lucky that there is a lot to practice on.Time
It was taken early evening on a beautiful fall day in October 2013. You couldn't have asked for a more perfect sunset. I had never seen a more beautiful sunset in my life. I really feel it was fate for me to capture something that amazing!Lighting
What better lighting to have than a beautiful autumn sunset. No other lighting equipment needed.Equipment
I used my Canon EOS Rebel T3 with my Canon 18-55mm lens. No other equipment was necessary!Inspiration
This was at the beginning of my new hobby of photography. Since I'm in "farm country" I had always wanted to capture beautiful farm scenery. I realized the soybean field across from my house was being harvested. Many may not know that when a soybean field is being harvested that there is a lot of dust which creates the hazed look. Plus lucky me it was also right when the sun was setting, which added to the effect. So I grabbed my camera and took several shots from many angles. This shot in particular I decided to go for a silhouette effect I went behind a small bush in my yard. I believe it added depth to the picture.Editing
This picture did not require any post processing at all.In my camera bag
Since that picture was taken I have purchased a new camera and several more lenses. My camera bag always will have my Canon EOS 7D Mark II body and my 2 favorite lenses which are a Canon EFS 18-135mm which I love for landscape photography and for my macro photography I use a Canon Compact-Macro EF 50mm.Feedback
Patience is required for sunset pictures. Not every evening is going to have a spectacular sunset. So you have to stay prepared always have your camera ready, battery charged, nothing worse than have beautiful scenery and and your battery indicator is flashing. (I now have a back up battery) Then when that great sunset finally comes along try taking the shot from different angles and try to add some depth to the picture by standing behind tree's, shrubs or even people. Silhouettes add depth to any picture. My picture had several layers of depth, first was the sun with the beautiful colors, second was the tree's in distance, the third layer was the dust from the field and finally the fourth layer was the the shrub. The most important tip is to have fun! Don't get stressed if every picture isn't perfect. I sometimes only get a couple good shots out of 10. But is those couple that make it worth it! Always be on the lookout for that next greatest shot. Beauty is all around us, sometimes you just have to pay close attention to see it!
