Very interesting shot, love that the eye initially looks to the right but wanders across to take in the whole scene, brilliant

Forgot to say that if I were you I'd enter this into the Rule of Thirds comp - if you do good luck, this is a great shot

Location
This shot was taken on a trail ride. We do a Cancer Benefit ride every year and one of the items I donated was a portrait for a rider/horse combination. I didn't haven anything mounted for a sample, so I pulled a rider over as she was readying her horse and took the shot. This photo (which I printed and gallery wrapped in one morning!!!) became the example for the silent auction. All the proceeds went to the local Cancer Society and Hospice Houses.Time
The photo was taken right at daybreak with heavy heavy fog.Lighting
Totally natural subdued light due to fog.Equipment
This was taken with a Nikon D7100, 24-70mm lens, handheld.Inspiration
I wanted to showcase what a trail ride was really about. They leave early, so one must eat, feed your horse, saddle, warm up your mount and be ready to leave, usually by 8:30 A.M. I think this photo depicts accurately what it's like.Editing
Post was done in Lightroom, converting to black and white with a heavy tonal contrast. In my camera bag
Love a crop sensor, especially for animals and action. Currently, I'm using the D7100 (Nikon), various primes, and one zoom. I keep a hot shoe flash for those "just in case" shots.Feedback
Offer to photograph a ride. It's a great experience and the folks are usually open and friendly, and LOVE to talk about their horses and let you shoot to your heart's content. Even if I didn't own horses, I would do it again and again. It's a day well spent doing what you love to do.
