Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken at Black Tusk, Northern British Columbia. After a 2 day hike we climbed a steep slope of volcanic rock to achieve the summit.

Time

About 3 p.m., the light is hard and sharp in the distance, but it was overcast overhead so we have some good details in the shadows.

Lighting

Lighting is hard and bright as it is mid-day. Not good for portraits, but excellent for silhouettes.

Equipment

Canon T2i

Inspiration

At the top of the mountain, with a good panorama, and a camera that I lugged all the way from the bottom of the mountain, who wouldn't take a photo?

Editing

This was stitched from three photos, and the shadows were pulled up a little more to reveal detail.

In my camera bag

Fujifilm x100 when traveling by foot Fujifilm x100 and Canon T2i when traveling by car

Feedback

For a lot of nature photography, having good technical skills is only half the story. One needs to have a sense of adventure to be able to appreciate and ultimately capture it.
