I was a fishing guide in Alaska and we were fishing Brooks creek at Katmai national park. As always, I was caring my camera, hanging from my neck and into my waders when the bear, looking for the salmon that was just coming into the river from Naknek Lake to cross to Brook lake and saw he got the intention to make a charge into the river I got my camera out and made a perfect timing sequence.Time
this was about mid morning, not that it matter much, since at the time, July, there was about 20 hours of light a day. Very lightly covered, so light was really nice for the shot.Lighting
Even if there is only a few clouds, it softens the light and the shadows are not so hard, perfect.Equipment
Nikon D600 with a 28 - 300 nikor lens. since I was guiding fishermen I wasn't able to carry a tripod and, at the same time, action is so fast and arrives so suden, that you don't have time to set a tripod.Inspiration
Bears are great action shots, you never know what you are going to get. fascinating animals. When you are in one of the rivers with the more bears together, something interesting is always going to happened.Editing
Just a little white balance. In my camera bag
I have my Nikon D600, 24-85mm and 28-300mm, nikon D700Flash, at least 2 batteries for the camera and new aa batteries for the flash, several microfiber cloths, polarized filters.Feedback
Keeping calm around bears is really hard some times, but get into the river with them, the platforms won't give you the proximity for a real shot. Only in Alaska, don't try this in any other place or you will become food.
