Driving down the QEW is quite scenic and inspiring. Many photographers have taken photographs of the mysterious ship in Jordan Harbor. It was difficult to find some information about the "La Grand Hermine" shipwreck off of exit 55.

In paraphrase of the video footage from CHCH's Fred Anderton's "You Asked": La Grand Hermine is a 140 ft replica of the largest of three ships French Explorer, Jacques Cartier sailed to Canada in 1535. The replica is a 70 yr old Quebec ferry converted into a bar-restaurant for the Expo 67 in Montreal. The ship was even used as a haunted pirate ship to raise funds for a hot lunch program for students. Ironically, some kids lit a fire to keep warm one winter night. The La Grand Hermine burnt down to the original steel hull in 2003. Locals say that the original business owner who commissioned the ship to rest in Jordan harbour had big plans for the ship to be a casino in Chippewa. Unfortunately, the owner has passed since. This is my artistic vision of the infamous resting place of The La Grand Hermine.
