Location
I took this photograph in my home studio in Dundas, Ontario, Canada.Time
The photograph was taken in the late afternoon.Lighting
I used an Octabox in the background, front beauty dish with elinchrom strobes and a silver reflector.Equipment
My equipment used for “ICU” is the Nikon D3S with 70-200mm/2.8 lens hand held.Inspiration
This was the beginning attempt to practice headshots. Because our family members always get to be our test subjects, I asked my husband before dinner to model for me. Of course he was thrilled and made a lot of funny faces at me. Because he has Heterachromia iridum, his eyes make for an interesting photograph.Editing
Yes, I love to post process! I wanted to focus on the eyes and made a few mistakes as I practiced my craft. First I overexposed, then under etc. My shutter was at 1/400 at f/11 and this blacked out the bottom of the frame. When I cropped the image, I added a heavy vignette because it reminded me of a peephole. From there I did some general touch up on the image. In my camera bag
My camera bag consists of a Nikon D3S, Nikon D800, 70-200 & Fisheye Nikkor, 10-20 Sigma, a few filters, remote and small flash.Feedback
Eyes are literally the focal point of any face. Experiment and study what you love about the photograph, no matter how technically sound the image may be. If you open your mind to options that make the photograph express what you feel…it may surprise you.
