Nice shot. Almost looks miniature.

Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken in Springfield, MO from the Jefferson Avenue Footbridge.

Time

This is one of my favorite photos. I was in Springfield, MO visiting my son for Thanksgiving (the weekend after). I heard about the Jefferson Avenue Footbridge that is over a rail yard. I wanted to try photographing items from above to make them look miniature. I arrived at the footbridge around 10 am with an impatient teenager. We had to wait nearly an hour for a train to make it's way to us. I almost missed the shot due to the impatient teenager commandeering my camera for a little while.

Lighting

Natural lighting

Equipment

Nikon D3200 with 300mm lens

Inspiration

During a photography class at Eureka College, we were told about a photographer that would go up in a tower to take photos of cars to make them look like miniatures. Since hearing the story I wanted to try to take a photo that made something look miniature. My son use to have train sets so I thought it would be nice to try to make a life size train look miniature.

Editing

There was not a lot of post-processing done to this photo. A little bit of cropping, contrast and some color adjustment.

In my camera bag

I carry my Nikon D3200, 55mm and 300mm lens. Extra batteries, SD cards and a table top tripod

Feedback

This is the only photo I have taken that looks miniature. My advice would be to get to a high vantage point with a zoom lens and have fun. I think I got very lucky with this. Sometimes it is better to be lucky than good.
