Dawn, before sunriseLighting
The lighting wasn't very good due to a storm brewing in the oceanEquipment
Shot with my Canon 7d with a Canon 10-22mm lens mounted to a Manfrotto 055xprob tripod with a 498 ball headInspiration
I initially went out that morning to shoot the sunrise on the ocean, set up around an hour before sunrise and heard thunder brewing in the sky. I set my camera up on my tripod and started shooting longer exposures to see what I could capture and during one exposure out of the many I was able to catch a lightning bolt on the waterEditing
I performed some basic exposure adjustments in Photoshop due to the original exposure was slightly over exposed but not too much editing to the original imageIn my camera bag

To get a good shot of lightning my advice is to be patient and shoot lots of exposures to get the best image
