Behind The Lens

Location

The Union Building, Philadelphia, PA

Time

We were walking in the City Center area in the late afternoon on a typical August day in Pennsylvania - hot, humid, and cloudy.

Lighting

There was no real lighting setup here, I used natural light, which was nice because it sort of streamed into the image from in between the buildings.

Equipment

I used a Nikon D50, no flash or tripod.

Inspiration

We were in Philadelphia on our way back home from America's 911 Ride in August 2014. We thought to take a day or so and see Philadelphia since I'd never seen it. We were walking around the City Center and what caught my attention was the curved stairway. It's such a juxtaposition of concrete and grace that It begged for me to take a picture.

Editing

My only post-processing is contrast and fill light.

In my camera bag

I generally have a Nikon D3200 (I upgraded since I took this picture!), a Sigma 70-300mm DG lens, Nikon (Nikkor) 55-200mm lens, and my standard Nikon (Nikkor) 18-55mm lens. I also have numerous camera cards, lens cleaning kit, Nikon Speedlight SB-500, Pinout Remote shutter release, and mints.

Feedback

If you see something that catches your eye like this, just take the picture already. Don't second guess - "Is it a good picture" or "will people like it". If YOU like it then take the picture. In fact, take several. You never know what you truly have until it's out of the camera and on a larger screen so you can really see it. Just keep taking pictures, and have fun.
