Location
This photo was taken at Son Serra de Marina, my favourite beach in Mallorca (Spain).Time
As much as Mallorca is known as a summer resort for tourists who love beach and sun, there is so much more to discover. That's what I like to show with my photography and in my workshops.Lighting
It was a crisp and windy day in January, the sky was overcast and the air filled with blowing sea spray. Just the right weather for a long walk on the cliffs and sand. It was around ten o´clock on a stormy January morning. The sea was angry and raging like a madman foaming at the mouth under a slate grey sky. Where sea and sky met, there was this brooding blackness. This is perfect weather for a walk along the cliffs and sandy beaches.Equipment
As I opted for a longer exposure, I brought a tripod and tried to keep the camera safe from the spray.Inspiration
Rolling sea and white horses, the power of the elements, is not the typical image of the Mediterranean Sea. In fact, the sea here can be pretty rough in winter. Son Serra Beach is famous for its waves within the island´s surfer community.Editing
I always shoot RAW and process my images in LR.In my camera bag
I like to walk or hike and be a couple of hours outside. So I try to keep my bag as light as possible. As well as my camera you'll find a 7-40 f.4 and a 70-200 f 2.8 lens, a polarised-filter and a light tripod.Feedback
Usually I install my tripod directly on the sand always alert of the spray. I didn't use a grey-filter here, but Iso100 and f22/30 sec. exposure.
