Behind The Lens

Location

The photo was taken in South Africa, an of course I wont tell exactly where to protect the animal.

Time

We saw that guy from the jeep while on an afternoon drive. He came running out of the bush and stopped right in front of the jeep.

Lighting

The photo is almost back lighted, with the light coming from the left.

Equipment

Canon 50D, EF70-200 f4L IS USM + 1.4X 1/160 at f/10

Inspiration

When do you see a rhino in the wilderness and get so close to it? It was very exciting, and I must admit I was scared!!!

Editing

I converted the photo to b/w with Silver Efex Pro 2.

In my camera bag

My main camera is the Canon 6D, but I brought my old Canon D50 to have more focal length because of the crop factor.

Feedback

When you go on safari be well prepared. Learn about the camp, the animals you are about to see and their behavior. A tripod is not very handy on the vehicle, so never shoot under 1/125 sec with a long lens when you handhold. try to get in front of the vehicle, to event people holding their cameras and cellphones in front of you.
