Inspiration

This is my favourite Cambridge University College (St Johns) It is a totally stunning piece of architecture.

Editing

Not many people realise this... but this photograph is a manipulation. The photograph was taken without the reflection. The relfection I created the reflection in Photo shop CS2. To start with I doubled the height of the 'canvas' to allow space for the reflection, then simply duplicated the original image, rotated it so it was upside down and then positioned it below the original. To get the colour for the reflection I played about with the colourisation and the hue and saturation until I was satisfied. To achieve the ripples I used the ripples option found under filters in CS2 and and played around with the direction and radius of the ripples until I was happy with how they looked.

Feedback

When taking a photo which you then plan to manipulate in any way I always try and pre compose the photo in my head. I think about everything; the angle, the light, the colours, my postioning when taking the shot. It's very easy for some to think I'm going to edit this any way so the original doesn't matter to much but it really does!! To get the best and the strongest compostion for your manipulation the original or starting image has to be a good strong image.
