Location
I took this photo in our back yard in Taos, New Mexico.Time
Late afternoon.Lighting
In the late afternoon the sunlight bounces off of the walls of the house as a natural fill light. It was winter and there was snow on the ground so part of her smile is her trying not to shiver.Equipment
Canon 5D II with 18mm 200mm zoom lens handheld.Inspiration
My wife is a metalsmith and she made the word Salvation out of silver for a show that she was in. Having my daughter holding my wife's art makes the image a family collaboration.Editing
I processed the image in Photoshop to make it black and white and add grain. In my camera bag
Canon 5D II assorted lenses from a fixed 50 and zooms that cover 18mm to 400mm.Feedback
If the subject is holding something out to the camera a slightly wide lens closed down to 16 or higher adds foreshortening and softens the figure.
