Discarded Bouquet

'Discarded Bouquet...'
no longer proudly displayed in some pretty vase
the timeless symbol of love lies, wilting, amongst dark stones
delicate, distorted reflections
perhaps reminiscent of a fading sentiment
dancing like a lonely ghost across the icy water
as softly it flows into the winter's night

The backstory:
One of the 'goals' (and I use the term loosely) I had for my photography this year was that I wanted to take at least one photo each month that I considered print worthy.... yet as the last day of January was coming to a close, I had yet to take a single photo, let alone a nice one. I just didn't see anything inspiring, and quite frankly, I didn't really care. But I was annoyed that I was failing my goal so soon, so I tried to come up with something I could do.....
I noticed the lovely bouquet of roses that my brother-in-law had brought my Mom a couple weeks ago were pretty much done for, the edges of the petals had turned brown and were wilting, and Mom had mentioned earlier it was about time to throw them away, so I thought maybe I could find something to do with them. My first idea didn't materialize, and I almost gave up on it, but then my annoying annoyance with myself resurfaced, so that evening I picked the rose with the best shape along with a sprig of baby's breath and headed for the ditch that runs through our woods...... I spent about an hour and a half moving the flowers to different locations in the water-on the ice trying to find interesting compositions. I ended up wet, muddy, cold, and all scratched up from being constantly stuck in the briars..... but I think I came away with a couple not-too-bad shots to hopefully appease my annoyance for awhile, lol - hence, I present to you my first photo taken in 2023 ????
