A pair of Steller sea lions share the rocky Aulon Islets of the Farallons Islands with a variety of sea birds. Deep blue seas, rich green algae, dark brown seaweed, and multicolored rocks add subtle splashes of color to the bleak landscape on an overcast day. Although only 30 miles from San Francisco, the islands remain relatively pristine as the Farallon National Wildlife Refuge.
